Guitar Lessons

Guitar Lessons with KTL: Learn One of the Most Popular and Versatile Instruments

During our guitar lessons, students learn the parts of the guitar, strumming, fingerstyle and technique. We teach students how to read music with standard notation and tablature (tab), a form of notation specific to the guitar that shows where the notes are played on the instrument itself. Students also learn how to sing and play and we immediately instill a sense of exploration by allowing students to experiment making sounds on the guitar.

We also allow students to choose the type of music they want to learn. We offer guitar lessons in:

  • Rock/Folk/Blues Guitar: For those students who prefer rock/blues/folk, we generally use the Hal Leonard series of method books.

  • Classical Guitar: For those of the classical persuasion, we use Frederick Noad’s Solo Guitar Playing book.

  • Jazz Guitar: For those wanting to learn jazz we additionally look to the Hal Leonard’s Real Book.

Everyone is encouraged to compose and we make time to jam together. At the end of each school year, we discuss the student’s progress and set new goals for the next year.
