KTL Faculty Band
The KTL Faculty band is a fun way for KTL teachers to perform for the community and get to know one another better.
It’s always been Director Sara’s opinion that teachers should perform at recitals. It sets a good example for the students and showcases the teacher’s talents in a way that helps the families appreciate and enjoy their skill even more. With formal recitals running long, the Faculty band was Sara’s solution to having many teachers perform and still save time. Boom! Time saved, problem solved, and something special for the audience!
At formal recitals, in addition to a few classical piano teachers who perform solo pieces, the Faculty band generally performs upbeat standards and pop hits. Some of their past repertoire includes, “Happy,” “Bei mir bist du schoen,” “In my life,” and They might be giants’ “Why does the sun shine?”
The Faculty band performs in a slightly different incarnation at UpStartRock & Teen Take Over shows. The core group consists of Director Sara, her husband Andrew on bass/vocals, drum instructor Ty, and KTL parent Ramon Cancel on guitar/vocals. Other KTL teachers join this core to perform a range of rock songs including Queen’s, “Under pressure,” the Beatle’s Abbey Road medley, and “This must be the place,” by Talking Heads.
The KTL Faculty band performs outside of KTL events at local fundraisers, farmers markets, and beyond.
